CPU Pot Prototype Testing…
November 21th, 2023
I’ve been working on a side project for a few months now and wanted to get this out in time for country cup. While the fist sample is in hand, i will not be able to offer these until 2024 comes around. With my mechanical design and machining background, i wanted to take my own stab at a pot design. I don’t want to get too far ahead of myself, but i think i found something here.
A while back i had the idea of putting an aluminum tube over a copper core to be able to increase the complexity of the core, but i sat dormant on this idea and Elmor (at Elmor’s labs) beat me to releasing something with this technology. The core that Elmor released with VolcanoX is not what i had in mind, but the general concept of a more complex core was there. So using that idea, i went to work on this design. The kit will include an aluminum top mount, an over tube, and the copper core. I have some supporting items coming soon to aid in mounting but as of now, they aren’t quite done yet.
Don’t get too excited about the gold overtube, as that is a one off (far too expensive). Im projecting these pots to land right around $600 USD. This pot is designed with 1000w+ workloads in mind. Its does work great for consumer CPU’s as well, but there are cheaper options on market that can cool them just as well. So far testing under load at 1200W and temp controlled at -100C looks very stable. Hopefully Sapphire Rapids and new ThreadRipper will really put it to work.
