New Product: Hot-300 Heatsink
August 28th, 2024
These are an item I felt I needed once I started doing some testing with my backplates and large HEDT platforms. When using high W/MK thermal pads alongside my larger backplates and more cold being put into the board with larger Threadripper CPUs, I found the controller running almost nonstop. This led to the PCB being VERY hot (insert meme name joke here), and it seemed the wires running to the heater were acting as the means of heat dissipation from the PCB. The first 2 inches of wire were very hot, with them cooling as you got closer to the heater. So, I decided to do something about it.
Now, on its own, the heatsink isn’t a dramatic improvement in temps. BUT, location is key. Having a mass of copper with a much higher thermal transfer coefficient than the bare MOSFETs near some cold air or by using one of my fan mounts (downloadable from my Discord), you can maintain near-ambient temperatures! I don’t have longevity improvement testing yet, but history shows that keeping heat out of components improves longevity time and time again. I am truly a fan of these Elmor heater controllers for how small and simple they are while being able to carry 300W and manage 4 zones of temperature. I just hope this helps make them even better :)
