Attending my second CGS event, this one taking place in historic Wilson NC. I’m lucky enough to be able to demo XOC for the public and let people see for the first time that nitrogen cooled pcs are not just limited to brand owned OC labs. I feel being at smaller shows like this is very important to growing the hobby and getting new faces in the community. Quite frankly, most people have no clue that nitrogen cooled pcs are even a thing, so being that first look into the community is a very important role. While the turnout at this event was a lot lower than the first CGS I attended, I still had some very curious guests stop by the booth. It was actually surprising while I was setting up on day one, how many people were looking for the “Nitrogen pc thingy”. For a town as small as Wilson, a lot of people are curious about tech.

Speaking of tech, Wilson has FIBER! That might not mean a lot to most of you reading this, but at a population of roughly 47,000 people and surrounded by no other big city, that’s a big deal! The city owns its on ISP service called Greenlight. The company known at the time as Timer Warner Cable refused to improve Wilsons internet infrastructure and in meetings literally laughed in the face of local representatives at the thought of installing fiber. So the town of Wilson just bankrolled their own internet service.
